Description

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), through the General Services Administration (GSA), is conducting market research to support the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA's mission is to save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce economic costs associated with road traffic crashes. This mission is achieved through a combination of education, research, safety standards, and enforcement activities. The agency recognizes the vital role that law enforcement plays in changing driving behaviors and enhancing traffic safety, which directly contributes to reducing fatalities on the nation's roads.

Despite their crucial contributions, law enforcement officers face significant risks in their line of duty, particularly from traffic-related incidents. Over the past decade, more officers have died due to traffic-related incidents than from gunfire. This underscores the importance of initiatives focused on officer safety. NHTSA aims to protect these officers by developing educational programs and training that promote safety habits and provide support to law enforcement families affected by such tragedies.

The proposed project seeks services that will enhance NHTSA's efforts in preventing line-of-duty deaths and injuries among law enforcement officers with a focus on traffic-related incidents. The contractor will develop data-driven communications and educational materials using web-based content, social media platforms, and evolving technologies. These materials will aim to reinforce positive safety habits among officers and raise public awareness about roadside dangers faced by law enforcement personnel.

Specific tasks for this project include creating and updating safety information relevant to officer safety in traffic scenarios; distributing communication materials such as newsletters, podcasts, graphics, and video clips; maintaining an active social media presence; hosting quarterly webinars; delivering training programs for law enforcement families; and providing technical assistance to NHTSA. Through these efforts, NHTSA hopes to advance its mission of improving officer safety while supporting its state partners in highway safety offices.
