DOJ - Biomedical Preventative Maintenance - MRAS

The General Services Administration (GSA), on behalf of the Department of Justice (DOJ), is conducting market research to identify potential vendors capable of providing Biomedical Equipment Technician services. This initiative aims to ensure that medical and related technical equipment in healthcare and research facilities is maintained at optimal performance levels, thereby supporting the DOJ's goals of delivering high-quality healthcare services. The overarching objective is to enhance the operational efficiency and safety of medical devices used in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating patients.

The work involves a comprehensive range of tasks performed by a Biomedical Equipment Technician. This includes repairing, calibrating, and maintaining an array of sophisticated medical instruments such as patient monitors, electrocardiographs, x-ray units, defibrillators, anesthesia apparatuses, pacemakers, and more. The technician will employ various hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, along with their expertise in manufacturer manuals and troubleshooting techniques to ensure that all equipment operates correctly.

In addition to maintenance duties, the technician will perform safety tests on medical equipment within healthcare facilities to protect both patients and staff from potential electrical or mechanical hazards. Collaboration with medical or research staff is crucial for verifying that all equipment functions safely and effectively. Moreover, the technician may be responsible for demonstrating the correct operation of these devices to healthcare personnel. This role requires a deep understanding of electronics combined with knowledge in fields such as human anatomy and physiology.
